Portal Life: The Ride No One Prepares You For

Did y’all survive the portal? Because whew — I know I barely did. My oldest went into the portal for the second time, and my stomach was in knots the entire first half of January. After countless phone calls with colleges, tons of DMs, and a few visits, he finally found a new place to call home and finish his final year of college. We truly feel blessed, especially knowing more than 10,000 players entered the portal.

When a football player enters the portal, he’s essentially giving up his scholarship spot and telling his current coaches, “see ya later.” If he doesn’t find a new home, things can spiral quickly, bringing a lot of uncertainty about his football future. But on the flip side, entering the portal is also a bet on himself — and that takes real courage. I’m incredibly proud of my son, but my heart also breaks for the 6,981 players still searching for their opportunity.
